Flag for sale UK Flag

The UK flag is called the Union Jack, and known as the Union Flag.

It is composed of:

  • the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), edged in white, superimposed on the Cross of St Patrick
  • the Cross of St Patrick, which is the patron saint of Ireland, is superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew
  • the Saltire of St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland.

Its actual design dates from the union of Ireland and Great Britain in 1801.

There is not the patron saint of Wales, Saint David, representing the State because when the flag has been designed Wales was still part of the Kingdom of england.
