Practical guide to help you choose the best fabric for your flag

Choosing the right material is essential to guarantee the durability, visual impact, and functionality of your flag. The choice depends mainly on the display location and the intended use.

1. Evaluate the display location

The main factor is resistance to weather conditions (wind, rain, and UV rays).

  • For Outdoor Use (High Resistance):
    • Nautical Polyester (110g/m²): The gold standard. Resistant, lightweight, and offering excellent color rendering. Ideal for windy areas.
    • Polyester Bunting / Spun Polyester: A prestigious fabric that mimics the appearance of wool. Extremely robust, it offers an institutional look, perfect for historic centers or official headquarters.
    • Windproof Polyester (Mesh/Micro-perforated): Thanks to its open-weave mesh, it allows air to pass through, reducing the "sail effect". Ideal for highly exposed areas and large formats.

  • For Indoor Use or Temporary Events:
    • Lightweight Polyester: An economical and versatile solution, perfect for short-term events or indoor use.
    • Satin: Elegant and glossy. This is the preferred choice for office flags, ceremonies, pennants, and awards.

2. Consider use and style

The use of your flag defines the required aesthetic:

  • Advertising (Beach flags, events): Nautical or Windproof Polyester for maximum visibility of logos.
  • Institutional / Commemorative: Polyester bunting for a solemn look or Satin for prestigious interiors.
  • Exhibition (Trade shows, Showrooms): Heavy Polyester or Satin, for an impeccable drape and vibrant colors.

3. Dimensions and Support

The size influences the weight that the structure (flagpole or mast) must support.

  • Small/Medium format: Lightweight or nautical polyester.
  • Large format (Flagpoles): Nautical or Windproof Polyester to avoid overloading the structure during wind gusts.
  • Roll-ups and Banners: Heavy Polyester, ideal because it stays well-tensioned without curling at the edges.

4. Finishes and Tailoring

Each fabric adapts perfectly to the different possible fastening systems. As a general rule, we offer the following finishes:

  • Double-stitched perimeter hem: Standard finish on nautical polyester and bunting flags.
  • Single-stitched perimeter hem: Standard finish on lightweight polyester and satin flags.
  • Heat cut: Available on windproof polyester and heavy polyester.
  • Overlocking (Serging): Available on lightweight, nautical, and bunting polyester.
  • Snap hook (Carabiner) and fastening rope: Standard finish on nautical and windproof polyester flags.
  • Pole sleeve (Pocket): Standard finish on lightweight polyester flags.
  • Knot and rope: Applicable to all fabrics upon request (recommended for maritime areas and boats).
  • Grommets/rings/straps: Available upon request for all fabrics.
