The flag of the Congo has three green, yellow and red oblighe bands. The flag shows the typical Pan-African colors and draws its origins from the Ethiopian flag. It consists of a yellow diagonal band that divides the flag into two triangles; green that from the side of the flagpole and red that to the wind. The Connecticut flag is made up of a white shield, with three vines with as many bunches of hanging grapes on a light blue background. Under the shield there is a Latin inscription Qui Transtulit, Sustinet (the motto of the State) translatable into What has been planted continues to sustain itself. The shield was the symbol of the Saybrook colony. Originally the symbol consisted of fifteen vines, reduced to three to represent the three colonies of New Haven, Saybrook, and Hartford. The flag was adopted on October 2, 1711.
