The flag is blue, with a black horizontal band edged in white in the center. The Botswana flag was adopted on September 30, 1966. It is inspired by the zebra. Blue represents water or rain and derives from the motto on the Botswana coat of arms, which in Tswana means "that rains!". The white-black-white bands communicate the harmony of the population.Botswana (in Italian also called Beciuania), officially the Republic of Botswana (Italian pronunciation: / bottswana / [4], in English Republic of Botswana, in setswana Lefatshe la Botswana) is a State of Southern Africa. to the south, with Namibia to the west and north, with Zimbabwe to the northeast; it has no outlets on the sea. The official language is English, but the tswana, the language of the homonymous people, which has the status of a national language, is very widespread. With the name of Bechuanaland it was a British protectorate until 1966, when it gained independence. From the English name derives also the transcription in Italian Beciuania (from which the adjective beciuano).
