The flag of Slovakia has its origins in 1848, when under a panslavism thought, the slovaks adopted the Russia flag. The actual version was adopted on January the First in 1993, day of the Indipendence from Czech Republic and it adds in the upper left quadrant the coat of arm of the Patriarchal cross, the same of the Upper Hungary (1848).
