The flag of Uganda was adopted in 1962. It consists of six horizontal bands of equal size, in black (top), yellow, red, black, yellow, red. At the center of the flag is a white disk with a crowned crane, facing the side of the pole. The bird is known for its mild nature. The colors are inspired by those of Uganda People's Congress, the party, founded in 1960, which won the elections in 1962: black represents the African people, yellow represents the rays of the sun, red represents the brotherhood of all men. The choice of the crowned crane instead depended on the fact that none of the kingdoms that existed in the country's past used it as its symbol, except for the football team Fiamme Nere Kampala, which however gave its approval.
