The flag of Saudi Arabia is green with white Arabic script: "There is no god other than Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet." This writing is that of shahada, that is the declaration of Islamic faith. This inscription is considered sacred and as such the national flag, which can never be hoisted at half-mast, even in the case of national mourning, since it contains the word 'Allah'. In addition, the writing to be read correctly appears straight on both sides of the flag. Under the writing a white horizontal saber. Green is the traditional color of Islam, as it is the color of the coat of Muhammad. There are other similar flags that differ from the Saudi one as they do not bear the symbol of the sword. This flag finds its origins in the flag of the Wahhabita movement. Ibn Saud in 1912 incorporated the sword into the drawing after taking possession of the throne. It became the national flag in 1932, when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was created.
