The flag of Ulster is the historical flag representing the Irish province of Ulster. It is still used in sporting events and formed the basis of the flag of Northern Ireland, which presents the Red Hand of Ulster in a white cross, surmounted by a crown and placed in the center of a red cross on a white background. The Mano Roosa is a heraldic symbol derived from the Uí Néill dynasty, which once reigned over the province. According to the legend two groups of Viking warriors with two ships were about to reach the land of Northern Ireland to found a city, but they were too many. At that point they decided that the first man who had held the land of that country in his hands would have had the right to set up his own group. The first challenger was ahead of the second and his crew thought they could win the challenge. But a second-boat warrior cut his hand and threw it to the mainland, flying it over the crew of the first ship. The bloody fingers of the cut hand closed on the ground. Thus the second group emerged victorious from the challenge.
