The Modena flag has two vertical bands of equal size, yellow (auction side) and blue. Modena is an Italian town, the capital of the homonymous province in Emilia-Romagna. The city of Modena was founded in 183 BC as a colony of Roman law, by the triumvirs Marco Emilio Lepido, Tito Ebuzio Parro and Lucio Quinzio Crispino. From 1598 to 1859 it was the capital of the Este duchy and is an ancient university and archiepiscopal seat. Since 1947 the city has also been the seat of the Military Academy of the Army and of the Carabinieri in the ducal palace. The Cathedral, the Civic Tower and the Piazza Grande of the city are included, since 1997, in the list of Italian heritage sites by UNESCO.
