The flag of Liechtenstein was adopted in 1921. The blue and red colors have an uncertain origin, some sources give them as dating from the coronation in 1746 of Joseph II of Habsburg-Lorraine to Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, where the dignitaries royals wore blue and red livery, but the colors of the ruling house on the Principality were red and yellow. The emblem, loaded in the center since 1982 to identify the state flag, is mainly made up of the Liechtenstein red-yellow weapons in the center, above a Samnite shield containing the Silesia (eagle) crests, Kuenringe (yellow-black with green cross), Troppavia (red and white), East Frisia for Rietberg (eagle with female features), and Jägerndorf (hunting horn), referring to the kinships developed over the centuries and territories possessed by the rulers.
