The flag of Lebanon was adopted on 7 December 1943. It was drawn in the house of the deputy Saeb Salam, in Mousaitbeh, by the deputies of the Lebanese parliament. The flag is made up of three horizontal bands: the central white one and two red lateral bands. The white band has twice the height of the red band (1: 2: 1 ratio). The green Lebanon cedar in the center of the flag touches both the red stripes and its width is equal to one third of the flag's width. The red bands represent the pure blood shed for the attainment of liberation. The white band symbolizes peace and snow covering the mountains of Lebanon. The green cedar (Cedrus Libani) symbolizes immortality and firmness. This tree is quoted many times in the Bible: "The just buds like the palm tree, rise up like the cedar of Lebanon"
