The flag of Imperia shows the emblem of the city in the middle on a blue background. Imperia is an Italian town, chief town of the homonymous province in Liguria; located in the Riviera di Ponente, was born in 1923. The current municipal coat of arms unites the heraldic weapons of the two previous cities that are part of the city today: Porto Maurizio (four open silver towers with black windows, red background, arranged 1,2,1) and Oneglia (an uprooted and fruitful olive tree on a silver background).
The symbols that characterize those that, to all effects, are two separate shields are taken from tradition: Porto Maurizio is characterized by the four defense towers that delimitated the territory, while Oneglia dall'olivo, whose local cultivation is celebrated since antiquity due to the high quality of the oil obtained from it.
