The Greenland flag was designed by the Greenland native Thue Christiansen. It is composed of two equal horizontal bands (white at the top and red at the bottom) and a large disk slightly moved towards the side of the shaft. The upper half of the disk is red, the lower half is white. The flag measures 12 for 18 parts; each band measures 6 parts in height; the diameter of the disc is 8 parts, it is vertically centered and its center is offset by 7 parts from the edge of the shaft. The name of the flag in Greenland is Erfalasorput, which means "our flag", while Aappalaaroq (which means "the red one") is used both for the Greenland flag and the Danish flag (the Dannebrog). Today's Greenlanders exhibit both Erfalasorput and Dannebrog, often side by side.
