Colombia

The Colombian flag is a yellow, blue and red tricolor with horizontal bands of 2: 3 proportions. The yellow band at the top is twice as high as the other two. Adopted on 26 November 1861, it derives from the tricolor of Francisco de Miranda born in the context of the Spanish-American independence and the project of a Greater Colombia. This is why it can easily be confused with the Ecuadorian flag; less with the Venezuelan one, since it has three bands of equal size. Symbolism is uncertain, even if a tradition wants yellow to represent the gold of the American continent, blue the oceans and red the blood shed in the struggle for independence.
