The flag of the Municipality of Brescia has two white and blue vertical bands with the city's coat of arms in the middle. The coat of arms of the city presents a silver shield crowned with a crown with five flowers and four gemmed points. In the field a lion of blue, armed, tongue and red-coded with the motto "Brixia Fidelis". The city of Brescia obtained the Medal to the City of the National Risorgimento (20/03/1898) - To remember the heroic actions carried out by the citizens of Brescia in the ten days of 1849. Prepared on the eve of the resumption of the war against Austria, the revolt broke out on the day of the battle of Novara (March 23, 1849). Led by Tito Speri - who was hanged in Belfiore in 1853 - the insurgents took possession of the city, but, at the end of a fierce resistance that earned Brescia the nickname "Leonessa d'Italia", they had to surrender to the Austrian troops the 2 April
