The flag of Belgium is characterized by a classic tricolor with vertical bands Starting from the auction the colors are: black, yellow and red. Its unusual proportions (13:15) are of unknown origin. The civil flag instead has the proportions (2: 3) like many other countries. The vertical design is based on the French flag while the colors were taken from those of the Duchy of Brabant. The flag was created in Brussels by Édouard Ducpétiaux and Lucien Jottrand in August 1830 and adopted on 30 September, shortly after the independence of the Belgians from the Netherlands was obtained. The flag played an important role during the revolts, where the colors were used as a reminder of an old flag with horizontal bands used during the previous movements of 1789.
