The flag of Andalusia is composed of three horizontal bands of equal size, the outer green ones and the central white one. At the center of the flag, positioned at the center of the white band is the emblem of Andalusia, which is 2/5 of the total height. This flag was approved in 1918 by the Asamblea de Ronda together with the hymn and the coat of arms of the region. The colors and the shape of the flag are regulated by the Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia. The author of the Andalusian flag design was Blas Infante, who chose the colors of the flag to symbolize the two most important historical periods of Andalusia: the green in memory of the Umayyads and of hope, the white in memory of the Almohads and of peace. The Andalusian nationalists called this flag, not officially, La Arbonaida. It seems that Blas Infante was inspired by the creation of the flag by a manifestation of Casares women.
