Abruzzi (Abruzzo) is a region in central Italy. It borders the Marche, Lazio, Molise. It is is less than 80 kilometres from Rome and is located on the Adriatic Sea. Many of its beaches are blue flags. In ancient times it belonged to Southern Italy, with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Its capital is L'Aquila and its provincie are L’Aquila, Chieti, Pescara, and Teramo. Most of the region is mountainous or hilly and the Gran Sasso d’Italia (9,560 feet [2,914 m]) and Maiella groups are located in this Region. But hills present a gradual slope eastward to the narrow Adriatic shoreline.

A flag was adopted on 21 May 1999; it has a bright bordeaux background with a gold bordered shield in the centre: its colours stands for the snow, the woods and hills and the sea of Abruzzi.
